How to Grow Anything: Make Your Trees and Shrubs Thrive y During the 80’s, the SIRIUS Puppy Training video — the all-time best-selling, and the very first dog training video ever produced—helped spread the word about lure/reward, fun and games dog-friendly dog training. In the 90’s, SIRIUS was adapted for television and Dogs With Dunbar became the first hit television series since Barbara Woodhouse. The program aired on Discovery Channel in Europe, and then in many countries around the world. SIRIUS established the hallmark for puppy classes and its concept has been adopted and adapted by most educated trainers. All thanks to SIRIUS, puppy classes are now taught all over the world.
Dori Monson Patch Community Guidelines Think of it as a behavioral vaccination. Your puppy gets shots to avoid parvo, rabies, and other nasty bugs. Puppy socialization helps avoid fear and aggression-related behavioral problems in adult dogs.
You’re the pack leader, so start early. If your puppy needs extra work, consult a trainer. Time invested in training your pup will pay off in companionship for the rest of your dog’s life.
4. Be Persistent – continue firmly with your potty training your puppy in spite of any difficulty. At times it may seem like your puppy just does not get it, but don’t waver and be persistent. It took our Aussie mix, Linus less than 2 weeks before he was potty trained. It took about 6 months to fully trust Stetson with his potty training. Stay persistent!
It’s best to get this right the first time around, because Puppy won’t ever be the same age again. You get only one chance to teach all the right habits to a “clean slate” puppy. If you try to train your puppy without help, you will probably have to re-do the lessons, only this time with an older puppy with bad habits.
Grannick’s Bitter Apple (2) Start with your dog standing next to you. Hold his leash in your left hand and a squeaky toy in your right. Place your right arm across the front of your body so the toy is above and slightly in front of your dog’s head. Encourage him to look up at the toy as you give the command and step forward with confidence. Your puppy should step forward with you as he follows the toy.
If you’re pee pad training your puppy, simply put the lead on them and wait for them to potty on their pee pad before removing them from their playpen, and voila! Your puppy starts to understand they need to empty their system before being allowed to join you for playtime. Soon, the leash won’t even be necessary–you’ll notice your puppy will potty for you as you appear near their confinement area so that they can quickly exit their pen.

Hi there! We do not have any videos covering crate training but we’ll be sure to consider it as a potential new video idea! Good luck and thanks for the suggestion!
Step 1: Do start training early and regularly. Puppies learn the most between the ages of eight and 16 weeks, so it’s never too soon to begin. “Too often, dog owners see training as an hour of specific activities, whereas it should be wrapped up in your family’s whole lifestyle,” says Beck. “You can’t just train your dog when you feel like it.”
Prescription Diet Of course, one of the first things to focus on in order to make everybody’s life more enjoyable is potty training. Again, if it’s possible to take the week off from work, do it, because you can make huge strides with potty training. The crate (more below) will help a great deal with potty training. So will sticking to a routine, like letting the pup outside every 30 minutes (not an exaggeration), immediately after your puppy wakes up, and shortly after eating/drinking. Each and every time your pup goes potty outside, be prepared with treats and praise; make her feel like she is the smartest puppy on earth. (see How to Potty Train Your Puppy the Clicker Way).

Android Austria 1. Keep an eye on your puppy – We learned pretty fast that it’s important to keep a constant eye on your puppy. Use puppy gates (same as baby gates), tie downs, and leashes to make sure you can always see your puppy. If you see him start to sniff around, circle, whimper, or squat then quickly scoop him up and take him out to his designated potty place in the yard.Give him a ton of praise when he potty’s in his spot. It’s important to keep your puppy under constant supervision not only for potty training purposes, but to keep him out of trouble in general. We’ve found many a chewed up shoe, cell phone, remote control because we didn’t keep a close eye on our puppies. This can be both costly and dangerous for your puppy.
Dogs Trust As with any type of training, all dogs will learn and progress through their crate training at a different pace. The keys to success are consistency and patience (and lots of treats and positive reinforcement!). Follow those keys during training and you’ll soon have a dog that LOVES their crate … and you’ll have a safer home and less stress in your life, as well.

Another way to set up your pup for success and minimize problems like nipping and furniture chewing is to provide appropriate chew toys. Think of a long-lasting food toy like a stuffed Kong or a bully stick as a pacifier. If you want to hold the pup in your lap for cuddles but nipping is a problem, let the pup chew on a bully stick in your lap while you hold the other end. Puppies need things to chew on. It’s not just nice to have. It’s a must-have. The more appropriate chewing outlets you can provide in the day, the more you can prevent problems.

Many people new to dogs cringe at the idea of confining their puppies in a crate, but the reluctance to use this tool generally evaporates after a few days of living with a new pet. Christine McGrath January 2, 2016 at 8:44 pm Send a Tip SAFETY NOTE: Be sure to have your dog on a leash at all times when you take him off your property, unless he’s reliably trained to respond to off-leash commands. Even if he seems like he’s going to stay close to you, he can easily become startled or distracted and run away from you, which can lead to him disappearing or being hit by a car.
